How Seresto® works

Sustained release technology

Seresto® works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface.

Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients over eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other collars.

The active ingredients of Seresto® are contained within the Bayer Polymer Matrix, making it water-resistant. Therefore it is unnecessary to remove the collar before the pet is immersed in water. Seresto® remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months.

why should we protect our cat from fleas, ticks, and other parasites ?

Revolution is a medication that treats and prevents a broad range of external and internal parasites and can provide the protection that your cat needs.

Fleas can cause skin irritation or flea allergy dermatitis, transmit tapeworms, and bacterial infections.

Heartworms are potentially lethal parasites transmitted by common mosquitoes. After infecting a cat, they eventually develop into adult heartworms in the large blood vessels of the lungs, near the heart. Just 1 or 2 worms can cause potentially fatal illness and lung damage (Heartworm Associated Respiratory Disease).

Ear mites are tiny parasites that live mostly in a cat's ears and feed off the ear lining, producing a black substance; they can cause irritation resulting in red and inflamed ears.

Roundworms live in the small intestine and the eggs are passed in a cat's feces or vomit. They don't only affect your cat's health but are dangerous to people, especially small children.

Hookworms live in the cat's intestines. They attach to the lining of the intestinal wall and feed on a cat's blood, passing eggs in the cat's feces. They can cause anemia and weight loss. They can also affect humans.

Year-round preventative is recommended. Here at Agape we have a topical option called Revolution.

why should we protect our dog from fleas and ticks?

Biting parasites, including fleas and ticks, can survive through the fall and winter months. In fact, with some parasites, feeding on your pet can actually be part of their survival. one of the fastest and easiest ways to keep your dog protected from biting parasites is with a monthly flea and tick preventative.

Fleas are more then a nuisance. These blood-sucking parasites can actually cause and transmit diseases that can be serious or even fatal to your dog or puppy. They cause or transmit: Flea Allergy Dermatitis, Tapeworm disease, Bartonella, Anemia, and Typhus.

Ticks carry diseases for humans and dogs alike; Anaplasmosis, Babesiosis, Lyme Disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Tularemia, Cytauxzonosis, Ehrlichia, Hepatozoonosis, and STARI.

Year-round preventative is recommended. Here at Agape we have a topical option, Vectra 3D, and a oral, Nexgard, for dogs that you can purchase.

what exactly is heartworm disease?

  • Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal condition in dogs

  • It is caused by worms that spend their adult lives on the right side of the heart and the large blood vessels that connect the heart to the lungs

  • It is transmitted through infected mosquito bites

  • Dogs of all ages are susceptible to infection

  • Signs range from no sign at all to persistent cough, fatigue, fainting and weight loss

  • Heartworm disease is usually detected with a blood test

  • Treatment is an expense for the owner, and a painful, prolonged ordeal for the dog
  • Prevention of heartworm disease is recommended versus heartworm disease treatment

Year-round preventative is recommended. If your dog tests positive for heartworm, treatment can be risky, expensive, and often involves hospitalization. Prevention of heartworm disease is highly recommended. Here at Agape we sell Heartgard Plus.
